Suspect takes police for a ride

WILKES-BARRE – A pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in West Pittston led police on a chase Tuesday through several municipalities on both sides of the Susquehanna River that ended in the area of East Linden Street, according to sources.

City police officer John Maciejczyk, who was involved in the chase, was bitten by a canine near Madison Street. He was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Plains Township.

The pursuit began on Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston, at about 3:20 p.m.

A man driving the stolen vehicle turned onto River Street, Forty Fort, and Rutter Avenue in Kingston, where he turned on several side streets and drove onto the North Cross Valley Expressway to cross the Susquehanna River, according to reports.

The pursuit continued to the exit at River and Maffett streets in Plains Township.

Wilkes-Barre police joined the pursuit when the man drove onto North Washington Street and back onto the North Cross Valley Expressway where the driver pulled off the Luzerne exit.

The man turned back onto the North Cross Valley, exited at the Plains exit and turned onto River Street passing Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. The man abandoned the vehicle on East Linden Street and was captured at about 3:45 p.m.

No further information was available Tuesday night.
