Team is celebrating 25 years of diving right in

About one hundred people gathered to recognize the 25th anniversary of the all-volunteer Germania Hose Company Scuba and Water Rescue Team in Duryea on Saturday night. The team, led by captain Len Basara and lieutenant John Amico, are up to 18 trained responders, eight divers and 12 surface support personnel.

Basara said his team is ready to answer calls for water rescue and recovery all over Northeast Pennsylvania.

Keynote speaker James Johnson, of the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Dive Team, praised the effort of the dive team and stressed how it takes a special dedication to plunge into icy black waters.
