ASHLEY – Fifty-seven area high school seniors were recognized Monday evening for their academic excellence and community accomplishments.

Best & Brightest finalists anticipate each award announced on Monday during the awards ceremony held at Bentley's in Hanover Township.

The students were chosen as finalists in the 16th annual Times Leader Best & Brightest awards, which were given out at Bentley’s in Ashley. Of the finalists, 14 winners received a trophy and a $1,000 scholarship.

In March, a panel of judges, composed of employees of the Wilkes-Barre Publishing Co., chose the semifinalists and then finalists in 14 categories. About three to five finalists were nominated in each category, including Arts, Computers, Math, Athletics, English, Performing Arts, Business, Foreign Languages, Science and Environment, Civics, Journalism, Vocational Studies, Community Service and Music.
