Update: Source says feds to announce charges against judges Conahan/Ciavarella

A source familiar with the federal investigation into the Luzerne County judiciary said federal prosecutors will announce today the filing of charges against Luzerne County President Judge Mark Ciavarella and Senior Michael Conahan.

A press conference has been called for 1:30 p.m. today to announce developments in a "public corruption probe" at the Luzerne County courthouse, according to U.S. Attorney Martin Carlson. The release did not provide any further information.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the press conference is to announce that Conahan and Ciavarella have entered into plea agreements with federal prosecutors. The source did not know what the charges are.

Conahan was scheduled to hear protection from abuse cases and bail revocations. Barbara Nause, Conahan's law clerk, said Conahan would not comment. Ciavarella was not in his office Monday morning.
