W-B violence hospitalizes 2

Probes continue into weekend shooting, stabbing. Also, area man jailed for alleged gunfire.

Two people, including a 19-year-old, are hospitalized after an early Saturday morning shooting and a Friday night stabbing in Wilkes-Barre.

In a separate incident, one man is jailed for alleged gunfire in lower Luzerne County.

Wilkes-Barre police are investigating the early morning shooting at 164-166 Midland Court, just off East Northampton Street and Wilkes-Barre Boulevard.

The gunman is still on the loose, police said. There are no suspects at this time.

Wymann Allen, 44, of South Franklin Street, was shot in the chest around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Police found Allen on a sidewalk behind the Boulevard Townhomes before he was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Plains Township, according to Lt. Steve Olshefski.

Investigators canvassed the area, taking reports from neighbors and recovered some evidence from the scene, Olshefski said. It’s unknown what the motive was behind the shooting and what caliber gun was used in the attack, he said.

As of 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Allen was in guarded, but stable condition, according to Geisinger spokesperson Amy Lingobardo.

Police are also investigating a stabbing in South Wilkes-Barre.

Martin Remington, 19, of Wilkes-Barre, was stabbed in his abdomen with a knife at about 10:45 p.m. Friday, according to Sgt. Joseph Novak. He was taken to the Geisinger hospital for the stab wound.

Remington was listed in critical condition on Saturday evening, Novak said.

According to police, Remington was walking on South River Street near Walnut Street when a man riding a bicycle, described as having short hair and wearing a light colored shirt, stabbed the teen.

Just before the stabbing in Wilkes-Barre, police in Butler Township said they were investigating a report of a shooting at an apartment around 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Township police arrested a Drums man following the late-night gunfire.

Dana Stoico, 49, of 124 Birch St., is accused of intentionally discharging a shotgun into the wall of his residence in an apartment building, according to township police.

Nobody was injured, police said.

Stoico was arraigned Saturday morning on charges of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, a felony, along with reckless endangerment, according to jail records and township police.

Officers responded around 10:30 p.m. to a report of a shooting at Stoico’s apartment, police said. After hearing the shot, police said, Stoico was confronted by a neighbor who was in an apartment above him with her three children.

Stoico admitted to the neighbor he had shot the gun and they began to argue, police said. The incident began around 10:15 p.m. for an undetermined reason, police said.

State police troopers came to Stoico’s residence to interview him on an unrelated matter, police said. Stoico ran back into his apartment, but later surrendered to Butler Twp. authorities.

According to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed by township police, the shotgun and a discharged shotgun shell were found in the apartment, police said. Stoico admitted to police he had shot the gun, but did not give a reason.

Stocio remains at Luzerne County Correctional Facility on $1,000 straight bail.
