A Brooklyn native has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for robbing two Luzerne County jewelry stores.

U.S. District Court Judge William J. Nealon announced Friday that he has sentenced Jerry Smith, 32, of Brooklyn, N.Y., to 121 months imprisonment for his involvement in two jewelry store robberies. Parole has also been abolished in Smith’s case, U.S. Attorney Dennis C. Pfannenschmidt reported.

In November, Smith pleaded guilty to robbing Steve Hydock Diamonds, Kingston, and Dunay Jewelry, Wilkes-Barre, in May 2008.

On May 14, 2008, Smith and two other men allegedly entered Dunay Jewelry brandishing handguns, forced three store workers into a back room and bound their hands with zip ties and yellow plastic from a garbage bag.
