Well, “Stay in Iraq 100 years” McCain, “Flip-flop” Romney, “Rotten” Rudy and “I don’t believe in evolution” Huckabee pandered to their base and tried to fool the American public in their campaigns and debates.
When President Clinton left office, we were sitting on a $236 billion surplus. At the end of 2007, The Wall Street Journal forecasted a $339 billion deficit. You do the math. McClatchy newspapers called Bush the biggest spender since President Johnson and, for those who remember, LBJ was spending on things that helped most people.
So here we are with the old GOP “shell game.” The bait-and-switch continues and we continue borrowing from China and Middle East countries to pay our bills. Who and how do we repay them?
With a billion a week being spent on the occupation of Iraq, not to mention Afghanistan, the Department of Defense asking for an additional $70 billion next year for wars, and Bush proposing a $170 billion stimulus package (at least he’s finally looking at the problems in the economy), what do we get from the Republican candidates?
Well, here it is, folks: They are promising good old Republican tax cuts, with most going to corporations and the wealthy. I guess my question is: Are the citizens and voters in America as stupid as these candidates make them out to be? I hope not.
