PRINGLE – Wyoming Area School Board President John Bolin will also serve as president of the West Side Career and Technology Center Joint Operating Committee for 2010.
The committee unanimously approved Bolin as president at their reorganization meeting Thursday. Mark Kornoski from Lake-Lehman and Gary Mathers from Dallas School District will serve as first and second vice presidents, respectively.
During their regular meeting following the reorganization, the board reappointed Charles Coslett as school solicitor at a remuneration of $30,000.
Dallas representatives Mathers and Catherine Wega voted to retain Coslett, who has served as the school’s solicitor for 30 years, but opposed the salary, which represented a $1,000 increase over last year.
Russ Bigus, also representing Dallas, voted against the appointment but said after the meeting that his objection was to the salary.
“The salary should have stayed the same,” Bigus said.
Mathers said he voted against the increase “because of the financial nature of the beast,” noting he didn’t think a salary increase was appropriate.
Wega said her vote was against “the salary only, absolutely not against (Coslett).”
In other business, the committee approved an adult education program to begin in the spring semester. Course offerings will include mixology, Office 2007, high school English, intro to precision machining, intro to carpentry, PA safety inspection mechanic, PA emission inspector certification and intro to computer maintenance.
Payments for the culinary arts room renovations were approved. They included: $24,190 for plumbing work, $59,323 for general construction and $10,708 for electrical work.
Administrative Director Elizabeth Ellis said the project is progressing and expected to be completed by the end of January.
“It looks great,” Ellis said. “It’s bright and large – almost triple the size. It gives so much more room to work.”
Ellis said thanks to the instructor’s creativity, classes are continuing. “She’s using a lot of portable equipment to keep everything going,” Ellis said.
The committee also added Raymond McNulty and Marcy Tartella to the approved substitute list. Also approved was a 39-month lease of a mailing system and postage scale at $98 per month. The lease with ITS Mailing Systems/Hasler Inc. represents a savings over the current $125 rate with Pitney Bowes.
