Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Edward Maye, who was approached by two men in a back alley adjacent to Slocum Hall, 262 S. River St., around 4:20 p.m.
Maye is a resident at the dormitory and a freshman at Wilkes, according to students.
The suspects, both described as in their 30s or 40s, asked the victim for money and a struggle ensued, according to Wilkes-Barre police Lt. Steve Olshefski. The men took off with Maye’s cell phone.
“After he was stabbed he ran from the scene down to his residence,” Olshefski said.
Maye suffered a non-life threatening stab wound to the abdomen and was taken by ambulance to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
A detective remained at the hospital interviewing the victim.
Olshefski said the daytime robbery occurred in an area in which Wilkes students commonly walk.
The suspects were described as white males, one wearing a black sweater, jeans, black boots and with a scruffy face, and the other wearing a green checkered sweater.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Wilkes-Barre Police Department at 826-8106.
