Wyoming County man charged in Harveys Lake car theft

HARVEYS LAKE - A Tunkhannock man was charged by police on Friday for stealing a vehicle from a Harveys Lake home on Sept. 8.

James Rought, 21, was charged with theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was arraigned by District Judge Michael Dotzel in Wilkes-Barre Township and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

A Lakeside Drive resident told police that her 2008 Kia Sportage was stolen. Police later recovered the vehicle burned on Tannery Road near Noxen.

Police learned that Rought bragged about stealing the vehicle from Harveys Lake and burning it, the criminal complaint says.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Sept. 24 before District Judge James Tupper in Kingston Township.
