Yale will run for Congress in 10th District

Pike County resident Ted Yale will launch his campaign for U.S. Congress in the 10th District on Wednesday.

Yale will join the GOP race that already includes Snyder County Commissioner Malcolm Derk, 31, of Freeburg, who announced on Dec. 21. David Madeira, 42, of Lehman Township, said he will announce his candidacy on Jan. 28, and Lycoming County resident and former U.S. attorney Thomas Marino is expected to announce his candidacy next week.

The GOP winner will then face off against incumbent two-term Democrat Chris Carney of Dimock Township in the November general election.

Yale’s announcement will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Tom Quick Inn in Milford.

He is running as a fiscal conservative on a platform of limited federal interference and increased autonomy for state and local governments. He has attacked Carney’s support of the stimulus bill and the health-care reform bill.

Yale is counting on voter contact as a key part of his bid and urges voters to invite him to their political clubs, churches and community events.

“I know I am the underdog here,” Yale said. “The Democratic establishment will be throwing millions of dollars at this campaign. The only way to win will be to connect with voters one-on-one and at a community level.”

Yale said he is optimistic, adding, “Pennsylvania voters aren’t stupid. Carney got lucky in the past two elections, but when people see an opportunity to send a genuine conservative who really cares about them and their families to represent them in Washington, they’ll take it. I know I would.”

The 10th Congressional District includes all of Bradford, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Union, Wayne and Wyoming Counties as well as parts of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming and Tioga.

Yale lives in Lehman Township, Pike County, with his wife, Miriam.
