(AP) A highly prized collection of U.S. political memorabilia has gone up for auction in Philadelphia.

Among the items for sale are unusual ferrotypes of Abraham Lincoln. Those are essentially the forerunners of today’s campaign buttons.

Auction house Stack’s Bowers Galleries is putting on the block more than 2,000 pieces from the John J. Ford Jr. Collection.

A senior consultant for the company says some of the political tokens and medals have not been on the market in about a century.

The memorabilia covers campaigns from Thomas Jefferson through Franklin Roosevelt.

The sale is being held Thursday and Friday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Auction house president Brian Kendrella says the pieces are collectively expected to fetch about a million dollars.
