(AP) Even the Supreme Court justices keep abreast of court news through the award-winning SCOTUSblog, which has no official status as a news organization in the marble courthouse.
That's because it's publisher and owner, Tom Goldstein, not only reports the court's news, he's also built a Supreme Court law practice.
With more than 144,000 Twitter followers, the blog is so popular among Supreme Court watchers, it's helping set the agenda for covering the institution.
Goldstein says he plans to sell the blog next year and wants formal recognition as a media organization to help attract prospective buyers. That means getting a SCOTUSblog reporter a press pass.
The court, however, remains noncommittal. A spokeswoman says she is reviewing the credentialing process for reporters for the first time in nearly 40 years.
