(AP) The husband of a nurse accused of handing her 93-year-old terminally ill father a bottle of morphine says the family is elated now that a judge has dismissed an assisted suicide charge against her.
Joe Mancini tells The Associated Press that his 57-year-old wife, Barbara, was so overcome by emotion when she learned of the decision that she could barely speak.
In a 47-page ruling Tuesday, a Schuylkill (SKOO'-kul) County judge ruled that prosecutors had failed to prove a crime occurred and largely based their case against Barbara Mancini on hearsay and speculation.
Pottsville police had charged Mancini with helping her dying father, Joseph Yourshaw, commit suicide by providing him with morphine in February 2013 at his home. He died a year ago Tuesday.
Mancini was charged in August.
