(AP) The National Weather Service says a winter-weight storm has drenched the Northwest, with more rain falling in a day or two over the weekend than some cities typically get in all of September.

It's the second-wettest September on record in Seattle with more than 5-and-a-half inches. Normal for the month is an inch-and-a-half.

The 6.2 inches recorded through Sunday in downtown Portland was the most since record-keeping began in 1872. The previous record was 5-and-a-half inches in September 1927.

High winds hit trees that have not yet dropped their leaves. Tens of thousands of power outages were reported in the Puget Sound and Portland areas.
