The Board of Directors of the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple announced Michael B. Melcher has been selected as executive director.
Melcher’s experience in both arts administration and development will enable him to continue the mission of the Scranton Cultural Center and rejuvenate the national architectural treasure as a regional center for the arts, education and community activities appealing to all.
Melcher succeeds Attorney Joseph C. Peters who has accepted the position of senior executive deputy attorney general in charge of communications for Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane. Peters served as executive director since September 2011.
Prior to joining the staff of the Scranton Cultural Center, Melcher served as the executive director of the Pennsylvania Youth Theatre in Bethlehem, where he produced and premiered “The Happy Elf” in 2012 with writer and composer Harry Connick, Jr.
In addition to his tenure at the Pennsylvania Youth Theatre, Melcher has served as senior development manager for the American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic, co-founder and owner of KDS Fundraising LLC, and marketing and development manager for Avatar Galleries. He also served in the United States Air Force.
