IT IS CHEAPER to serve meals on a good grade of paper plate then it is to
pay for heating the water and the water itself to wash the dishes.

MORE MONEY FOR the aviation industry, more money for the war, more money
for Israel. Where is all this money coming from? Bush took this country from
$100 billion surplus to over $400 billion in the red in two years.
I’VE BEEN FOLLOWING all the coverage of the war in Iraq, and I think the
media is doing a fine job. The only question I have for the media is why is
there absolutely no media representation whatsoever on the side of the Iraqis?

Editor’s note: Not sure what you mean. Iraqi points of view have been
repeatedly noted in stories, and Iraqi officials have been quoted.

ON TUESDAY, MARCH 25th, the U.S. Senate took a vote, and thanks to every
Democrat and two turncoat Republicans that cut George Bush’s tax cut plan to
$350 billion, which is half of what he asked for. I imagine this would make
every Democrat in Luzerne County, the state of Pennsylvania and the entire
nation happy. You don’t need the money really, do you?

A LITTLE WORD of warning to all the emergency personnel out there. If
you’re driving an ambulance, you are not, under state law, allowed to fly
through a red light. You must stop. If my family is injured by your negligent
action flying through a red light, I’m going to call your ambulance company
and the town of city that you’re from, because I will find the sleaziest
lawyer and I will sue all of you for all it’s worth. You must stop under law.

Editor’s note: We thought the comment on the lawyer was a cheap shot, but
we see your point.

I’M ALL FOR the methadone clinic, but can somebody tell me why it has to be
in a residential area. Couldn’t they put it in an industrial park or something
so it wouldn’t be around these homes?

LET SHICKSHINNY STATE police tell you how competitive the volunteer
ambulance association is, if you dare ask. They seem to enjoy all the hams and
turkeys they get. In the business world, they call this marketing, but for
tax-exempt organizations, I’m not sure what you can call it.

I’D LIKE TO clear something up about France, Germany, China and Russia, it
isn’t because their lands have been decimated by war, it is because they have
a contract with Iraq for oil for their countries. If we go in there, that
contract is null and void and it’s up to them who they want to give it to. Now
it may not be Russia, it may not be China, may not be Germany, or France, but
may be the right thing should be done, and we’re doing it right now. And we’re
losing men doing it, and that’s the sad part about it.

THE PERSON WHO wrote and said that the French were our allies in World War
I and II, I think he’s a little mistaken. I think we were their allies in
World I and II. We’re the ones who helped them.

WELL, IT’S ELECTION time again and Mayor McGroarty’s running. He just left
our high-rise where he hugged and kissed some of the old ladies, and you’d
think it was John Travolta that did it. I’m telling you, I sometimes wonder
where these women are coming from. Some of them will say he did a good job,
most of them will say he did a bad job but let him come with his smiles and
his hugs, and they’ll do anything but stand in the middle of Public Square on
their heads.

IN THIS WAR, our side is following the rules. The other side does as it
pleases.

FROM WHAT I’VE read in the paper this Rendell, the big Philadelphia
politician, wants to raise my state income tax up here where there’s no good
jobs so that he can lower Philadelphia’s wage tax for the people down there.
It looked very clear to me. He’s taking care of his own town by raising our
taxes up here.

ON GOVERNOR RENDELL’S tax hike, if the Pennsylvania Game Commission paid
their fair share on their millions of acres of land they own, we wouldn’t have
to pay other taxes.

THIS IS IN regards to Luzerne County Corrections Facility. Our (name of
official deleted) has threatened the guards over there not to contact SAYSO
because it causes problems for the prison. The officers are only reporting the
truth. I thought there was a freedom of speech here.

Editor’s note: We’ve gotten several calls that are purportedly from the
prison. If you have real issues to raise, why not talk to Law and Order Team
Leader Brian Malina at 829-7196. He’ll try to sort out gripes from legitimate
grievances.

WHY IS IT whenever Nanticoke High School has a program, the (title of
school official deleted) has to sing? There are plenty of talented kids who
could be performing. Let’s give the kids a chance.

YOU THINK THERE’S a crisis right now with the doctors, at the rate we’re
going there is going to be a major medical insurance crisis. Right now, you’ve
got people calling the ambulance, probably because they are on assistance or
something, for things like a ring stuck on a finger, and they send a medic
unit. That’s a $700 to $900 charge. These people know that if they go to the
emergency room, they’re going to have to sit and wait. However, if they come
in via ambulance they probably won’t wait nearly as long. And also it’s a free
ride down and a free ride back. Hey, you got a nosebleed, call for the taxi
and go.

Editor’s note: If folks know of this as a real problem, call David Iseman
at 829-7176 and we’ll see if we can do a story.

I’D LIKE TO know what the Kingston Township fathers were thinking when they
allowed this monstrosity of a rec center to be built on Carverton Road. It’s
defaced the whole countryside. Large, commercial looking, it looks like an
airplane hanger. Come on, I thought churches were for nonprofit.

CONGRATULATIONS, MAYOR OF Wilkes-Barre Township. The flags and yellow
ribbons in honor of our troops is so touching and beautiful. God bless you.
Keep up the good work.

FROM THE NOT reporting incident descriptions in Kingston it sounds like
Mayor Haggerty is maybe taking lessons from Mayor McGroarty of Wilkes-Barre.
He wants to be in total control.

SHORTLY AFTER HIS election, your paper carried a cartoon depicting Ed
Rendell as a football quarterback yelling hike. How prophetic.

THOMAS PUGH, VICE president of Allied Services called and was asking that
the government be responsive to increasing the amount of pay for workers in
these community residential homes that care for people with disabilities. They
haven’t gotten a cost of living raise in two years. Well, don’t worry about
it. The state has already spent your money, Mr. Pugh. They’ve spent it all on
their special-interest pet projects and all of their little initiatives to
help you do business better, even though you already do business fairly well.

MAYBE WHEN WE win the war with Iraq, we can bring our troops home to fight
the war against drugs, because that war has been a failure. In fact, maybe we
should run up the white flag.

I LIVE ON Oak Street in South Wilkes-Barre. I just want to say to the
person that stole my American flag and the pole it was on, I hope you display
it proudly and that you do not deface the flag that you stole from my front
porch. Honor it and honor our troops.

I READ IN the paper today where the Americans are going into Baghdad, and
they should know who is good and who isn’t good. Well, I just think that we
should kill them all. I mean, if it’s your life or their lives, wouldn’t you
rather save your life? I’m sorry, but that’s the way I feel. War is war.

DON’T YOU KNOW that 60 percent of our oil comes from Arabic countries? Also
we get oil from Venezuela, and their country was striking months ago. Without
oil, our economy will grind to a halt. It is simply supply and demand.

ISN’T IT AMAZING McGroarty has to wait for the water to recede in that
little bitty area of the park to clean up the whole park? Hello, mayor. The
whole park is not under water, only a minimum part of the park is under water.
What’s the matter with the rest of it?

SOMEONE ASKED IN your paper, who picks up the dead deer, PennDOT or
whoever? We have the same problem up here in Lackawanna County, Moosic. The
deer has been laying here for six months and finally got picked up. But in
Wayne County, a PennDOT worker picks up all the dead deer year round.
