WILKES-BARRE — Area Democrats opened a campaign office Thursday with an
attack on Republican Tom Ridge for his attendance record in Congress.

Ridge faces Democrat Mark Singel in a race to succeed Democratic Gov.
Robert Casey. Singel did not attend Thursday’s office opening, but state
Democratic party chair Linda Rhodes took up the fight.
Rhodes criticized Ridge, R-Erie, for missing 100 votes in Congress this
year while campaigning for governor. The Democrats claim Ridge’s attendance
record ranks 429th out of 435 Congress members.

The Wilkes-Barre office, which is on North Main Street near Liberty 1 Hour
Cleaners, will serve as local campaign headquarters for Singel, U.S. Senate
incumbent Harris Wofford and congressional incumbent Paul Kanjorski.

The property is owned by local businessman Thomas Greco.

Kanjorski attended the opening, as did Wofford’s representatives.

Wilkes-Barre Mayor Lee Namey and Luzerne County Commissioner Rose Tucker,
both Democrats, also showed up for the opening.
