While Matt McGloin's NFL career started off with a bang, one of his former teammates wasn't as lucky
Michael Zordich, who was battling to make the Carolina Panthers' 53-man roster, suffered a season-ending injury.
The former Penn State fullback, who was instramental in holding the team together after the NCAA leveled severe sanctions last fall, tore his ACL in the Panthers game against the Bears.
The team placed Zordich, an undrafted free agent, on injured reserve.
McGloin, meanwhile, grabbed some national attention for himself.
He entered the Raiders' game in the third quarter, going 4 of 7 and completing a picture-perfect 30-yard touchdown pass. He finished the game as the highest rated of the four quarterbacks on the Raiders' roster.
Dallas linebacker Sean Lee had his own highlight in the game, sacking Raider QB Matt Flynn and forcing on fumble on the opening drive. Lee finished the game with three tackles and a sack.
Offensive lineman Stefan Wisniewski also saw action for the Raiders in the game.
Here's what other Penn Staters did in the first week of preseason.
  • Arizona tight end Mickey Schuler had one catch for eight yards against the Green Bay Packers.
  • Green Bay defensive back Chaz Powell had two tackles against the Cardinals.
  • Bengals defensive end Devon Still had two tackles against the Falcons.
  • Robbie Gould kicked two extra points and a 35-yard field goal against Carolina.
  • Browns reciever Jordan Norwood made one catch for nine yeards against St. Louis.
  • Linebacker Josh Hull was in on two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) for the Rams
  • Jaguars tight end had two receptions for 19 yards, including a long of 13, against the Dolphins.
  • Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake had a tackle against Jacksonville.
  • Linebackers Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti both saw action for Minnesota. Hodges was record three tackles while Mauti had one.
  • Giants linebacker Dan Connor was involved in two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) against the Steelers.
  • Steelers reciever Derek Moye had two receptions for 22 yards, including a long of 13.
  • Linebacker Nate Stupar had a tackle for the San Francisco 49ers against the Denver Bronocs.
  • Titans linebacker Tim Shaw assisted on one tackle against the Redskins.
  • Redskins running back Evan Royster carried the ball 14 times for 62 yards against the Titans.
