PLAINS TWP. — A man from Avoca was charged Sunday with assaulting a woman and struggling with state police troopers inside the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs casino.
Juan A. Montano Jr., 38, was charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Casino security advised troopers with the Gaming Enforcement Unit that Montano had assaulted a woman on Sunday. Montano refused to provide identification and struggled with troopers when he was arrested, according to the criminal complaint.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled on June 10 before District Judge Diana Malast in Plains Township.
WILKES-BARRE — Police arrested a California man on drug charges after a traffic stop Monday.
Officers stopped a vehicle they say was operating with an expired Pennsylvania inspection in the area of 484 S. Franklin St. at about 12:10 p.m.
Upon making contact with the driver, officers detected a strong odor of fresh marijuana emanating from him, police said.
Police identified the operator as Yukio Pinnock, of Reno Drive, San Diego, and allege he was operating the vehicle with a suspended drivers license.
After Pinnock exited the vehicle, he was asked if he had any marijuana on him and allegedly replied that he had marijuana and a marijuana pipe. Officers removed marijuana from his front right pocket along with the marijuana pipe, police said.
Pinnock was arrested and transported to Wilkes-Barre police headquarters, where he was processed and released. Charges will be filed, police said.
• Police stopped a vehicle Tuesday being driven by a man who they said was known to have a suspended license.
The man quickly got out of the vehicle, and as officers approached him in the area of 299 S. Main St., they noticed a smell of burnt marijuana inside the car that was wafting from an open window, police said.
According to the report, officers then ordered the man back into the vehicle. He refused and began screaming at police, who continued telling him to return to the car. He then assumed a fighting stance and balled his fists, police said.
Officers said they then subdued the man, identified him as Jean Almonor of Wilkes-Barre and found him to be in possession of a small bag containing what they suspect was marijuana. Police said they also found a marijuana cigar near the car’s center console.
Police charged Almonor with making terroristic threats, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use.
HAZLETON — Police are looking for information regarding an incident of criminal mischief.
According to police, an unknown person or group smashed three windows with rocks some time Monday morning at the Hazle Township Baseball Park, causing approximately $375 in damage.
