Mid-Day Note: The final word on Vince McMahon and other good stuff

Ah, it's the day after the big Vince McMahon story broke and we are still receiving e-mails asking us if the head of the WWE is dead or alive.

So let's get this out of the way before moving on to anything else: Vince McMahon definitely did not die in a limo explosion Monday night at Wachovia Arena. While we can't tell you where McMahon is, we can tell you the limo exploded Saturday night and a videotape of that was shown Monday.

If you want to know more, read Rory Sweeney's story.

Now, enough of the WWE silliness. Let's take a look at what we have for tomorrow:

-- Our newest staff member, Rebecca Bria, will take a look at some young video journalists at Wyoming Valley West. The school has long been known as a friend to print journalism. Check out Rebecca's story tomorrow, and drop her a line today welcoming her on board.

-- Intern Michael Duncan is chasing an interesting story about a West Side business. I can't get into more details now, but pick up the paper tomorrow. If he manages to get the story, I promise you'll get a chuckle.

-- The final few area graduations are approaching. Tonight, Hazleton Area High School will graduate. We will have a story and photos.

-- Editorial Page Editor Jean LaCoe is working on an editorial about Flag Day. I'm guessing it will say something about how we should all fly our flags on Thursday. That's probably a good thing to tell us because I didn't realize tomorrow was Flag Day.

And on the Web site today:

-- Area farmers are concerned about the dry weather we have been experiencing, reports Staff Writer Tom Venesky

-- Tom also has a story about the annual mayfly invasion. You know, those little guys who force the Market Street Bridge to be closed at least once a summer. Tom's story says we should brace ourselves for a large invasion.

-- Staff Writer Jennifer Learn-Andes tells us that Thomas P. Cooney and tow truck driver Bob Kadluboski have applied for the vacant Luzerne County Commissioner spot. That makes the total number of applicants seven. A judge will pick a new commissioner on June 18.

-- Don't forget about the Weekender. This week's issue is their annual motor issue. Click on over and see what those crazy kids on Market Street have cooked up.

Those are today's highlights.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the coverage on McMahon. I wonder what we would have done without the internet. I live in SW Iowa and the next morning you were on top of what actually happened. Thanks again. Frank of Iowa
