In a story that is sure to make the Bookman character from Seinfeld smile, someone has returned a book to the Osterhout Free Library in Wilkes-Barre 40 years after the book was checked out.
And just to make sure all the late fees were covered, the person who returned the book included a $5,000 check with it. Just in case you're wondering, the book was "Look Homeward Angel." Has anybody ever read it? Could it really take 40 years to get through it.
Staff Writer Sheena Delazio will have all the details.
Also coming up tomorrow, features writer Lisa Sokolowski will let you know how tonight's Alice Cooper show at the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre was. (Lisa, if you have an extra ticket, I don't have any plans.)
And we will go out with Luzerne County Commissioner Steve Urban as he takes a look at some county bridges that were damaged in recent years by flooding and still need to be repaired.
Now, let's take a look at what's on the Web site today.
-- Staff Writer Bill O'Boyle tells us that Dan Meuser is considering running for Congress in the 10th District. The only twist is he lives in the 11th District. Meuser says he will be a resident and registered voter in the 10th District by the time the election rolls around.
-- Parents of high school-age runners participating on the Lake-Lehman cross country team are unhappy with Lehman Township's supervisors. The supervisors have banned the team from running along township roads. The decision brought more than a dozen parents to the supervisors meeting last night to protest the decision.
-- A 15-year-old boy will be charged as an adult in the Sept. 3 shooting of Jeffrey Dalessandro, according to Terrie Morgan-Besecker's article. Lee Charles Murphy of Eastview Drive, Wilkes-Barre, is charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, conspiracy and several firearms violations.
-- Sports writer Van Rose tells us that the GAR High School girls volleyball team scored its first victory in two seasons by defeating cross-town rival Meyers last night. Sophomore Kellie Yekel lead the way for the Grenadiers, which scored a 3-0 victory.
Those are today's highlights.
