NANTICOKE — Nate Seise hit a moving 17-footer at the overtime buzzer Wednesday night to lift Nanticoke to a 51-49 non-league boys basketball victory over visiting Pittston Area.

Tyler McGarry scored five of his team-high 15 points in the final 27 seconds of overtime to rally the Patriots from a 48-44 deficit into a 49-49 tie.

Tyler Myers led Nanticoke with 18 points, four assists and three steals. Mike Malshefski added 10 points while Nick Valenti had eight blocked shots and seven rebounds and Cairee Walker had nine rebounds.

James Tobisch scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and made three steals for Pittston Area (2-3).

Valenti blocked three shots in the first quarter to contribute to Pittston Area’s 2-for-13 start and help Nanticoke to a 10-6 lead.

McGarry, a sophomore, came off the bench to make all three of his 3-point attempts during the second quarter to cut the gap to 21-18 at halftime.

Myers hit a 3-pointer for the last scoring of the third quarter to put Nanticoke ahead, 31-28.

There were four ties and three lead changes in the fourth quarter.

Pittston Area was ahead until Nanticoke’s Brent Piontkowski hit both ends of a one-and-one. Neither team scored in the last 1:02 of regulation, which ended in a 40-40 tie.
