KINGSTON — Generations of families have been purchasing unique jewelry and gift items from 3 Sisters in Kingston. And family is just what 3 Sisters was founded on 25 years ago.
When owner Catherine Duffy decided to open the shop, she asked her two sisters Diane Dreier and Mary Leeds for their help. Not only did they offer assistance, her sister Diane came up with calling it 3 Sisters after the siblings.
“I remember one customer who came here as a young girl with her mother and now she recently came in with her baby,” Duffy said. “I see a lot of our customers coming in with their own children now.”
Leeds’ daughter Nina, 15, works part time at the store. “The store has really come full circle now,” Leeds said. “We’ve moved to another generation.”
The main focus of the shop has always been sterling silver jewelry, Duffy said. “We have a lot of special handcrafted and one of a kind pieces,” she said.
She tries to focus on items that are made in America and fair trade. Many of the jewelry lines contribute some of the proceeds to charitable organizations as well. For example, the Angelica expandable bracelet donates 25 cents from each bracelet sold to Generation Rescue, which supports programs to improve the quality of life for those affected by autism.
Perhaps one of the most popular lines sold at 3 Sisters is Pandora, which it has sold for 10 years.
But although jewelry is its mainstay, that isn’t the only item sold at the gift shop. There are also handcrafted glass boxes and handmade soap.
“The store creates a fun shopping experience,” Duffy said. “We have a unique mix of items. There are things that you won’t see anywhere else. And we try to offer a high level of customer service.”
One of the main selling points of 3 Sisters is that the shop offers something for every budget, ranging from $10 to $20 items to $100 and $200 items.
