Gift cards: The gifts that keep giving

Gift cards seem to be getting more popular every year. And why not? They’re easy to buy, easy to wrap and come in handy as last minute gifts for the pickiest of recipients. But there’s also other reasons and they come in $5 and $10, $15 or in some cases $20 versions called bonus gift cards.


Restaurants, and now some retailers and online companies, are enticing the purchase of their gift cards at various times throughout the year by including bonus cards good for the coming month or two when you purchase requisite amounts of gift cards this month.


Here’s a look at the deals available right now at area eateries:


Applebee’s: Receive a $10 bonus card when you buy $50 in gift cards.


Outback Steakhouse: Receive $20 bonus gift card when you buy $100 in gift cards. (you can even make personalized gift cards, including pictures). Bonus cards are redeemable between Jan. 1 and Feb. 10.


Ruby Tuesday: Receive a $5 bonus coupon when you buy $25 and $15 bonus coupon when you buy $50 in Ruby Tuesday Gift Cards. Order online and get free shipping. Red Lobster: Receive a $5 bonus card when you buy $25 in gift cards.


LongHorn Steakhouse: Receive $5 bonus coupon for $5 off the purchase of two adult entrées when you buy $25 in gift cards. The bonus card is valid Jan. 1 through Feb. 13.


Olive Garden: Receive $5 off bonus coupon when you buy $25 in gift cards. Bonus card is valid 1/1/14 – 2/13/14 for $5 off the purchase of two adult entrées.


Texas Roadhouse: receive $5 bonus eGift card via email when you buy $30 in Texas Roadhouse gift cards online at http://www.texasroadhouse.com/gift-cards.


Ruth’s Chris: Receive a 10 percent off bonus card when you buy $250 or more in gift cards. Holiday bonus cards valid Jan. 2 through March 31.


Uno Chicago Grill: Receive a $5 bonus voucher when you buy $25 in gift cards. The bonus card will be valid Jan. 2 through Feb. 13.


TGI Friday’s: Receive $5 bonus bites card when you purchase $25 in gift cards.


Bob Evans: Receive a six-pack of cookies and a coupon booklet with $20 worth of savings when you buy $30 in gift cards.


Rita’s Italian Ice: receive a free Treat Certificate for every $10 gift card purchased.


Chili’s: Get a $10 Holiday Buck Bonus card with you buy $50 in gift cards. The bonus card is valid Jan. 1 through Feb. 10.


Denny’s: Receive a $5 bonus card when you purchase $25 in gift cards.

Logan’s Steakhouse: Purchase $25 in Logan’s gift cards and receive a $5 bonus card that’s valid Jan. 2 through Feb. 12.


Red Robin: Get $5 bonus bucks for every $25 in gift cards you buy. They’re valid Jan. 1 through Feb. 28.


Lonestar: Buy $25 in gift cards, receive a free appetizer coupon. Or, purchase $75 in gift cards and you’ll receive a free entree voucher. The coupon expires Jan. 31 but is good on your next visit.
