Mrs. Elizabeth W. Besancon, 85, formerly of Laurel Run, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Besancon was born in Laurel Run, a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Nixon Lowe, and was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. She had resided in Laurel Run Borough most of her life, and had been active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Laurel Run Volunteer Fire Department for many years. She had also been a member of the Laurel Run 4-H Club.
Betty was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, and was a member of the Episcopal Church Men and Women of the Parish.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Lowe.
Surviving are her sons, David J. Besancon, Wilkes-Barre; Karl E. Besancon, Kingston; Joseph J. Larnerd, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Michael P. Larnerd, Wilkes-Barre Township; five grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 451 N. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. John Leo, Associate Rector, Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
