Kirby Kidz, a children’s theater program, will present “Disney’s Aladdin Kidz” and “Disney’s Alice in Wonderland JR” at 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 16 at the F. M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre. Singers, dancers and actors from all across Northeastern Pennsylvania and even New York City will be part of the productions.
Kirby Kidz is a product of the F.M. Kirby Center’s and the Harris Conservatory for the Arts outreach programs respectively. The program is open to all boys and girls ages 5 to 18 regardless of stage experience or training.
The production marks the conclusion of an 8-week theater workshop held for regional children which began the end of June and focused on acting technique, theater fundamentals, vocal performance, dance terminology and performance. The program, unique to Northeast Pennsylvania, is designed to offer that “Kirby Experience” to all aspiring school age actors, singers and dancers.
Members of the Kirby Kidz will appear in two different shows. Children ages 5 to 10 years old make up the cast of “Disney’s Aladdin Kidz.” The musical is based on the 1992 Disney film of the same name and features such memorable songs as “Friend Like Me,” “Arabian Nights” and “A Whole New World.”
“Disney’s Alice in Wonderland” JR features the Kirby Kidz ages 10 through 19 years old. Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s famed books “Through the Looking Glass” and “Adventures of Alice in Wonderland,” the musical follows closely the 1951 Disney film. Wacky characters, bright sets and noted songs like “I’m Late,” “Golden Afternoon” and “Un-Birthday” will introduce the audience to a world of imagination.
Theresa Kloeker directed and choreographed both musicals and Doreen Ignatovich was the musical director for each cast.
