BUCK RUN, Pa. — Authorities believe a man whose body was found in an abandoned coal stripping pit may have been seeking shelter when he died.
The body was discovered Monday morning in a heavily wooded area in Foster Township, less than a mile south of Interstate 81.
“At this point, it doesn’t appear to be suspicious,” said Schuylkill County Coroner David J. Dutcavich. An autopsy was scheduled.
The man’s age and identity had not been determined, although the coroner estimated that he was between 45 and 55 years old.
The man is described as white, about 6 feet tall, with an average build, brown hair and a graying beard, according to state police Trooper Robert S. Betnar.
