The Greater Wyoming Valley Audubon Society announces its schedule.


“Traveling Minstrels & Member’s Night”


Date: Monday, Jan. 20

Location: Trinity Presbyterian Church, Irem Road, Dallas


Cost: Free


Greater Wyoming Valley Audubon Society Members’ Night featuring Traveling Minstrels. Bring poems, photos, videos and slides of interesting birds or animals or nature to share with the group. The Audubon Society will show a 26-minute video provided by the PA Wild Resources Conversation Fund entitled “Traveling Minstrels - Pennsylvania Songbirds.” For information, call Craig Yarrish at 570-479-0400.


Birding in the Kirby Park Natural Area

Join Bob Wasilewski as he leads a bird walk through the Kirby Park Natural area. With a species list totaling some 165, you never know what surprises might await us. Meet at the Nesbitt Park boat launch located via First Avenue and Pierce Street, Kingston, across the street from the Subaru dealership. For information, contact Bob Wasilewski at 570-542-5948.


Barnegat Light, N.J.


Date: Saturday, Feb. 15

Cost: $5 Fee

Located at the north end of Long Beach Island on the New Jersey coast, Barnegat Light State Park is one of the best places to see purple sandpipers, red-brested mergansers and long-tail ducks, as well as other shorebirds and songbirds. Hog Island Camp

Hog Island in Bremen, Main, is owned by National Audubon Society. Ellie Harding and Sandy Goodwin will share their experiences from the Joy of Birding event attended this past June. Travel to PA Game Commission Wildlife Management Area – Middle Creek for an unforgettable experience of seeing and hearing thousands of snow geese and tundra swans. Also see songbirds and raptors. Most birding is done roadside. Meet at the Park & Ride across from K-Mart by Blackman Street at 7:30 a.m. or at 8 a.m. at Perkins Restaurant in West Hazleton on Route 93 near the I-81 interchange.
