HANOVER TWP.: The Hanover Township Post 59 Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. on April 8 at the Hanover Township Post 59, 578 Fellows Avenue. All members and guests are welcome.
WILKES-BARRE: This week, AMVETS volunteers are out in force at veterans affairs medical facilities and veterans homes across the country to recognize and support sick and hospitalized veterans for AMVETS Because We Care Day on Wednesday. Because We Care Day is a decades-old tradition within AMVETS, where volunteers take the time to visit with veterans at health care facilities from coast to coast and distribute personal hygiene kits to those in need.
AMVETS Post 59, Hanover Township, and AMVETS Post 189, Greater Pittston, will conduct the annual AMVETS Because We Care Day ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the chapel at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, and at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the general purpose room at the Gino Merli Veterans Home, Scranton.
The AMVETS National Service Foundation finances the personal hygiene kits and distributes them in time for Because We Care Day to veterans affairs medical centers where AMVETS has certified VA Voluntary Service representatives.
Every year, AMVETS volunteers provide nearly 200,000 hours of service at veteran facilities across the country through the volunteer program.
