Cass Elizabeth Rupert, daughter of Richard and Barb Rupert, Shickshinny, was recently named Northwest Area’s Student of the Month for April. Rupert has been highly involved in 4-H as a treasurer, vice president and president. She is a six-year member of the American Poultry Association and American Dairy Goat Association. She also holds membership in Northwest’s Future Farmers of America organization, the National Honor Society and track and field and cross country teams. She has received many awards through the Luzerne County Fair and Pennsylvania Farm Shows for farm display and showmanship. She also conducts countless volunteer hours for Ag for Kids, Commission on Economic Opportunity and the Salvation Army. Her future plans include majoring in environmental science through the Army ROTC Program at Liberty University.
Jay Solgama, a sophomore at MMI Preparatory School, was a winner on Exam A of the American Chemical Society High School Chemistry Competition, sponsored locally by the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the American Chemical Society. The exam recognizes exceptional accomplishments in high school chemistry. Solgama and his chemistry instructor, Laura Petro, were honored at the annual awards banquet at the Links at Hemlock Creek Restaurant in Bloomsburg. He is the son of Paresh and Arti Solgama, Mountain Top.
