WILKES-BARRE: Eleven teachers from local school districts were among 19 people who recently completed the Master’s Thesis class at King’s College. The Master’s Thesis class is the culminating project in the Curriculum and Instruction and the Reading graduate programs at King’s. Upon successful completion of the class, students receive either a Master of Education degree or a Reading Certificate Certification.
Students spend two semesters working on their research. The first semester involves understanding the process of conceptualizing and conducting educational research. Quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods and action research are examined.
During the second semester, graduate students refine their topic of interest, research documented information in professional journal and studies and complete their analysis and implementation. At the Master’s Symposium, the graduate students graphically present their work and discuss their findings with colleagues.
Local educators who completed the program are Matthew Mill, Amy Peters and Brooke Joyce, Wilkes-Barre Area School District; Kaitlyn Ferguson, Brenda Sterenchock, Neil Yurkavage and Ashley Thompson, Hazleton Area School District; John Lombardo and Johanna Rehill, Pittston Area School District; and Jennifer Evans and Liz Kane, Wyoming Valley West School District.
Sarah Reedy also completed the Master’s Thesis course and earned a Reading Specialist Certification.
