Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, 420 Main Road, Buttonwood section, Hanover Township, is hosting a Polish Lenten service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. The ‘Gorzkie Zale’ (Bitter Lamentations), a moving Lenten service more than 300 years old, will be offered in the church. The devotion will conclude with benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The service, which will be conducted by the Rev. John Albosta, focuses on the Passion of Jesus, from his arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane to his redeeming death on the cross. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Dominick Costantino Jr. and the music ministry of Exaltation of the Holy Cross and other parishes in the area. The lamentations highlight the emotional nature of Polish spirituality, inviting all to share in the Lord’s Passion as seen through the eyes of his mother Mary. The devotional service can be experienced by all through the use of bilingual booklets with Polish and English lyrics. A light social will follow the devotion.
