LEHMAN TWP.: Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Continuing Education Department recently announced a free executive leadership workshop available at two locations this fall.


Titled Personal and Corporate Drivers for Effortless Excellence, the fast-paced presentation will explore both personal and corporate drivers that modern managers and executive leaders are using to power higher levels of success within their organization. Two sets of topics will be addressed, personal and business growth. Personal topics will include how to develop a deeper level of belief in yourself and your organization, getting committed to life-long learning and taking personal responsibility. Business growth topics will cover developing imagination and courage and learning about external focus and what it means to your organization.


The workshop will be held on Friday, Sept. 25, at Penn State Wilkes-Barre and on Friday, Oct. 10, at Penn State Northern Tier Center, Towanda. There is no financial obligation. A continental breakfast is included. The program and breakfast will take place from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Participants will be briefly introduced to future programs for their review.

MOUNTAIN TOP: Jennifer L. Severini-Kresock, a private career and college counselor from NEPA Career and College Counseling Associates, will present a comprehensive, two-hour free workshop on completing the Common Application from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library, 35 Kirby Avenue.


The Common Application is a nonprofit membership organization that provides services that promote equity, access and integrity in the college application process. It serves students, member institutions and secondary schools by providing applications that students and school officials can submit to more than 500 college and university members that promote access by evaluating students using a holistic selection process.


Topics include: creating a Common Application account; detailed instructions on completing the Common Application; Common Application deadlines and other requirements; choosing recommenders; the common application essays; the Common Application college supplements; and final submission and payments.

NANTICOKE: K.M. Smith Elementary School is hosting a Back to School Night from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18.


Kennedy Elementary and the GNA Elementary Center will hold Back to School Night on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Three identical presentation will be given at 6-6:15 p.m., 6:25-6:40 p.m. and 6:50-7:05 p.m. Parents and guardians are invited to come and meet with teachers. Students may accompany their parents and guardians. Packets of information and forms will be distributed.


On the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 25, only students will be allowed in the buildings.
