Officials say the death of a Los Angeles police detective found shot at a suburban home is being investigated as a suicide.

Police in the city of Whittier said Wednesday that there are no signs of foul play in the death of Nadine Hernandez.

The 44-year-old was found Tuesday with a gunshot wound and she died at a hospital. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado says Hernandez was a detective in the Robbery-Homicide Division Special Assault Section. She was frequently assigned to high-profile cases including an investigation into an accusation of rape against NBA star Derrick Rose.

LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado said Wednesday that Detective Nadine Hernandez was found shot to death in Whittier. Police there found the 44-year-old Hernandez on Tuesday with a gunshot wound and she died at a hospital.

Whittier detectives have not said if they’re investigating the death as a homicide or suicide.

Preciado says Hernandez was a detective in the Robbery-Homicide Division Special Assault Section.

Hernandez has said the department is looking into sexual abuse allegations against Rose, who is being sued in the matter and denies any wrongdoing

Authorities are investigating the death of a Los Angeles Police Department employee found shot in a Whittier home.

Whittier police Lt. Jay Tatman says officers responding Tuesday to a report of a gunshot victim found a woman suffering from a bullet wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.

The coroner’s office identified her Wednesday as 44-year-old Nadine Hernandez.

Officials did not say whether Hernandez was a sworn LAPD officer or a civilian employee.

City News Service says the shooting is being classified as an “undetermined death” and detectives have not said if they’re investigating it as a homicide or a suicide.
