The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of Pennsylvania recently sponsored ‘A Basketful of Art’ contest. The GFWC-West Side sponsored the area contest at the Wyoming Valley West State Street Elementary School. One hundred and eighty-six students participated. Kaori Scavone, third grade, won first place at the club and county level. Morgan Massaker and Kyra Heller, fourth grade, won first place at club, county and district levels. Jarod Zawatski, fifth grade, competed in photography-living things. He won first place at club, county and district levels. He also won first place in photography-living things at the state level. He received a certificate and monetary gift. Judges for the club level were Jill Barrouk, art teacher, State Street Elementary School, and Rosemary Luksha, a retired teacher and local artist. Deidre Kaminski was GFWC chairperson and Melissa Parry was co-chairperson.
