JENKINS TWP.: The Jenkins Township Lions Club is sponsoring a scholarship program for the upcoming year. The club will issue a $500 scholarship, a $300 scholarship and a $200 scholarship.


To be eligible, students must be residents of Jenkins Township, completed a year in an accredited institution and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.


Drawing of the awards will be done by lottery. Deadline for submission is July 31. Only undergraduates are eligible.


Applications can be obtained from any Lions Club member or by calling Tom Ruskey, scholarship chairman, at 655-2554.


PITTSTON: Tobyhanna Army Depot retirees will meet for their monthly get together at 8 a.m. on July 17 at the Perkins Restaurant and Bakery, Route 315.


All Tobyhanna Army Depot retirees and current employees are welcome to attend.

PLAINS TWP.: The annual picnic of the Italian American Association of Luzerne County will be held on July 18 at the Plains Pavilion. Arrival time is 5 p.m. with barbecue food served at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for guests. Door prizes will be awarded. Music for dancing will be provided by Danny Argo and Friends with dancing to 10 p.m. Reservation deadline is Friday.
