DUPONT: AMVETS Post 189 is holding its Change of Command Dinner Dance at 6 p.m. on Saturday. A POW/MIA’s remembrance ceremony will take place before the dinner. The AMVETS Post 189 Honor Guard will participate in the memorial service honoring recently deceased post members. The installation of officers will be performed by Arthur C. Stahl.

The newly elected 2013-2014 officers are Bernard McDonald, third-term post commander; Thomas Skrzsowski, first vice commander; Jens Sorensen, second vice commander; Gerard Gurnari, adjutant; Tom Bufano, finance officer; Ron Faust, post service officer; Tony Kotlowsli, judge advocate; John Gambino, provost marshall; Richard White, chaplain; John Phillips, Joseph Slyvester and Richard Sorokas, trustees; and Bernie Babonis, post public relations officer. AMVETS 189 Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of AMVETS will also install officers.

This event is open to all veterans and veteran supporters for a $10 donation. All AMVETS Post 189 members are urged to attend. For reservations call Jerry Gurnari at 570-479-2366 or Bernie Mc Donald at 570-817-4858 no later than Friday.

TUNKHANNOCK: All school employees who will be retiring in the next five years are invited to attend one of two pre-retirement seminars sponsored by the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) .

The first one will be held on Sept. 28 at the Tunkhannock Public Library, 220 West Tioga St., and the second will be held Oct. 5 at the Lookout House, Route 93, between Hazleton and Berwick, one mile off Route 80 at exit 256.

Both sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude around noon. There will be a cost of $6, which includes coffee, doughnuts and lunch.

A PSERS representative will give the “Foundations for the Future” retirement planning presentation and answer any questions. Other presenters will include a financial planner and a representative from Professional Insurance Services Incorporated, who will speak on dental and vision and long-term care insurance. Social Security and health insurance options information will also be available.
