WILKES-BARRE — The first menorah candle will be lit to mark the start of
the eight days of Chanukah on Dec. 17. The ceremony will be at 3:45 p.m. in
the Weiss Auditorium of the Jewish Community Center of Wyoming Valley, 60 S.
River St.

Menorahs and candles will be provided, with refreshments to be served
following the event in observance of the Jewish holiday.
At the same time, another tradition, “Mayruth Halapid” or “Running of the
Torch,” will begin. Runners will bear torches and run from area synagogues and
temples to the Jewish Community Center.
