WILKES-BARRE- The Public Works Department might get some new high-tech
equipment.
   
Mayor Tom McGroarty might buy automatic garbage packers that would cut the
number of employees needed to operate a truck from three to one, said Shannon
McNulty, spokeswoman for McGroarty.
    One employee would drive the truck and use an automated arm that would pick
up garbage bags and dump them into the truck. The two employees who follow the
truck to toss in the trash or recycling would be freed for other tasks, such
as paving, McNulty said.
