SCRANTON – A 3-year-old West Scranton girl’s death was ruled a homicide on Saturday, Lackawanna County Coroner Joseph Brennan said.
Police are looking into the death of Kavannah Salvador, of 654 N. Hyde Park Ave., who was taken to a hospital by her father on Thursday night. She was pronounced dead that evening at Community Medical Center, in Scranton.
Brennan said the exact cause of death is pending further studies.
PLAINS TWP. – Township police said they arrested Travis Drew Miller, Berwick, along with three female juveniles, of Bloomsburg, Saturday night at Energy 21 Night Club. Police said Miller was arrested and charged with three counts of furnishing alcohol to minors; three counts of corruption of minors; underage drinking and public drunkenness. The three juveniles were cited for underage drinking, police said, and later released to their parents.
Police said that early Sunday morning police responded to a large fight that took place inside the dance club. Police said numerous patrons of the under 21 dance club complained to police about being maced, which was apparently used inside the club to control the fight.
Police said Plains Township EMS was contacted to aide in the flushing of the eyes of patrons who came in contact with the mace. Police said charges are pending.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following incidents:
• Police arrested Robert Tyson, 38, on charges of driving under the influence after police stopped him for a traffic violation on Kidder Street on Sunday. Police said Tyson was found to be under the influence of alcohol and in violation of probation. Police said Tyson was taken to police headquarters.
• Police said Kelly Hitchings was cited with public drunkenness early Sunday morning after police alleged she appeared on Public Square under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
• Police said Jermain Wynter was arrested on an outstanding warrant early Sunday morning, and while police searched him, they found him to be in possession of an amount of marijuana. Police said Wynter was arrested on the warrant and taken to Luzerne County jail for arraignment. Police said charges were filed for possession of a controlled substance.
• Police said John Turk, 33, was observed near 465 S. Main St., intoxicated on Saturday. Police said Turk was taken into custody and to police headquarters where a citation was filed.
• Michelle Gavis, 30, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation on Conygham Avenue and Wilkes-Barre Boulevard Saturday when police found Gavis in possession of drug paraphernalia and a pill bottle that contained no prescription. Police said they identified the pills as a controlled substance, and took Gavis into custody on an active warrant. Police said charges will be filed.
