Police Blotter

PLYMOUTH – Police are advising residents of a scam involving a caller seeking money in return for a $440,000 check.

Police said a woman was contacted by a man on the phone on Monday stating he was at the airport with a $440,000 check. The man instructed the woman to advance $42,800 to a company to receive the check, police said.

The man further told the woman that he had verified the woman’s address with police.

Police said the phone call was an attempt at a scam. Anyone who has received a similar phone call is asked to contact Plymouth police at 779-2147.

NANTICOKE – City police reported the following:

• Joseph Antonik, of East Field Street; Brandy Hower, of West Union Street; Edward Glazenski, of East Field Street; Pamela Mulaski, of East Field Street; Juan Hartman, of East Field Street; Lauren Pockevich, of East Field Street; Carol Keber, of East Field Street; and Allison Knuczon, of South Chestnut Street, recently reported someone damaged their vehicles while they were parked near their homes.

• Nancie Giberson, of State Street, Nanticoke, was recently cited with harassment and criminal trespass after she allegedly slapped a neighbor, police said.

• Megan Richmond, of West South Street, recently reported her wallet was stolen from her residence.

• Vince Balint, of West Noble Street, recently reported a global positioning system, a satellite radio, headphones and an iPod were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked near his home, police said.

HANOVER TWP. – State police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement reported the following alleged liquor violations:

• Ryk’s Tongue & Groove Inc., 320 Hughes St., Swoyersville, was recently cited for alleged loud music.

• Mark A. Stemko, trading as Palace Bar & Grille, 49-51 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton, was recently cited for allegedly failing to clean coils at least once every seven days, and failing to maintain sufficient food items.

LAKE TWP. – State police at Wyoming said they arrested 21-year-old Brian R. Malkemes, of Dallas, on evidence of drunken driving after a crash on state Route 29 on Sunday.

Police said Malkemes showed signs of intoxication after he crashed his 1996 Toyota Camry into a metal post at about 10:40 p.m.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

Brittany Kittle, of East Thomas Street, reported at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday that someone used her debit card.

• Thomas Anthony Himlin, of Plains Township, reported on Sunday someone stole the license plate from his vehicle while it was parked on the lower level of Park and Lock Central, South Main Street.

• Trina Malhotra reported at 8:47 p.m. Monday that a man known to her verbally threatened her via phone on New Grant Street.

Amy Bearce, of Kidder Street, will be cited with criminal mischief after allegedly damaging a wall at Luzerne County Children and Youth Services, North Pennsylvania Avenue, at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Charges were filed against Antonio Holden for allegedly violating a protection from abuse order by making contact with Toni Root on Academy Street at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
