Police Blotter

DUPONT – A man was charged by police on Tuesday with allegedly assaulting a woman in close proximity of an 8-month-old child.

Corey Daniel Burns, 20, of Dupont, was charged with simple assault, endangering the welfare of children, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was arraigned by District Judge Paul J. Roberts in Kingston and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.

Police allege Burns assaulted the woman inside a vehicle in the area of 208 Main St. at about 4 p.m. Tuesday. An 8-month-old girl was sitting in a rear seat at the time of the alleged assault, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said the woman was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled on July 1 in Central Court.

EDWARDSVILLE – A Larksville man was charged by police on Tuesday in connection with a pursuit involving a motorcycle on June 6.

Michael J. Shultz, 24, of Buttonwood Street, was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving a vehicle while his license is suspended and three traffic offenses. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint: Police attempted to stop Shultz for speeding on Route 11 on June 6. Shultz failed to stop and sped at a high rate, weaving his motorcycle in and out of traffic as he traveled toward Plymouth.

Shultz nearly crashed his motorcycle on Route 11 and turned into his driveway where he was arrested, the criminal complaint says.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on July 1 in Central Court.

HAZLETON – A man was charged by police on Tuesday with allegedly breaking into his sister’s residence.

Frank E. Zohner, 27, of East Diamond Avenue, Hazleton, was charged with burglary, theft, criminal trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $20,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police said a witness observed Zohner enter a home on West Ninth Street by climbing through a basement window at about 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Police found Zohner passed out on a couch. An open bottle of vodka was found next to Zohner, the criminal complaint says.

Police learned that the home is owned by Zohner’s sister, who was away at the time. She told police, according to the criminal complaint, that Zohner was not welcome inside her home. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on July 1 in Central Court.

HANOVER TWP. – State police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement reported the following:

• American Legion Post 815, 54 Chestnut St., Wilkes-Barre Township, was recently cited for gambling and allowing a non-officer or manager to sell small games of chance, police said.

• Joey’s Joint, 59 Plymouth St., Edwardsville, was recently cited for failing to post signage as required by the Clean Indoor Air Act, and selling alcohol between 2 a.m. and 11 a.m., police said.

NANTICOKE – City police reported the following:

• Police arrested Michael Anthony Rosario, 19, of Glen Lyon, after he was allegedly found with pill tablets without a prescription on Monday.

Rosario was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and loitering and prowling at night. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police were watching a known drug house when they observed Rosario walking in the area at about 11:40 p.m. Rosario noticed police in the area and attempted to escape by running behind homes.

Police found Rosario hiding behind an apartment building. He claimed he was walking to Glen Lyon, the criminal complaint says.

Police allege in the criminal complaint they found approximately $400 and 10 Vicodin tablets in his pockets.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled on July 1 in Central Court.

• Barbara Robaczewski, of Park Street, recently reported items were stolen from her vehicle when it was parked near her home.

• Sherry Karvaski, of West South Street, recently reported a digital camera and a DVD movie was stolen from her home, police said.

• Nathan Zannetti, of East Union Street, recently reported a stereo was stolen from his vehicle when it was parked near his home, police said.

• John Jackolski, of West Union Street, recently reported three tires were stolen from the rear of his home.

• Brian Moore, of Loomis Street, recently reported someone attempted to force open the doors on his vehicle when it was parked near his home, police said.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following incidents:

• William Roy Schmauch II of Forty Fort was arrested around 2:10 a.m. on Monday after a traffic stop on charges of driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Joe Lenahan made a report around 11:57 p.m. on Saturday at 109 Poplar St. and Stella Morio was charged with disorderly conduct.

• Christopher Dunn, 18, and a 17-year-old male, both of Wilkes-Barre, were charged with underage drinking around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday.
