WYOMING – Police are investigating an early Saturday morning burglary at a tobacco store on Wyoming Avenue.
Assistant Chief Joe Kopko responded to the burglary at Choice Tobacco Store at about 2:15 a.m. and found a smashed front window, police said. Multiple cartons of cigarettes were stolen.
Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact Wyoming police officer Chris Mercavitch at 613-1402.
SUGARLOAF TWP. -- A Hazleton man was charged Monday for allegedly assaulting his mother after she told him it was time to eat dinner.
Duane Edward Hilliard, 31, of East Diamond Avenue, was charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment, township police said. He was jailed at the county prison for lack of $5,000 bail.
Township police allege Hilliard shoved his mother and grabbed her around her neck threatening to “put a bullet between her eyes,” early Sunday night, according to arrest records.
Hilliard’s mother claimed, arrest records say, Hilliard was drinking and became upset when she told him it was time to eat dinner.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Aug. 5.
BUTLER TWP. – Township police said they cited several students at the Keystone Job Corps Center in connection with several unrelated disturbances early Monday morning.
Police said they were notified Monday morning that a female student was sexually assaulted at the center Saturday night. While investigating the sexual assault, a disturbance took place involving Alexis C. Edgefield, 18, of Philadelphia, and a 17-year old female student.
Police said Edgefield was cited with harassment and disorderly conduct.
Several hours later at about 4:30 a.m. Monday, police returned to the Job Corps after staff members reported two students were causing a disturbance and inciting other students. State police assisted township police in restoring order at the center, and cited Elliot K. Gallashaw, 18, of Philadelphia, and a 17-year-old male from Dover, Del., with disorderly conduct.
During attempts to restore order, police said, Demarko Stokes, 19, allegedly punched walls in the security building. He was apprehended as he walked away from the center and cited with disorderly conduct, police said.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:
• A father was charged by Monday for allegedly running after his daughter with a box cutter.
Ronald Robert Romiski, 33, of Sycamore Street, Wilkes-Barre, was charged with two counts of simple assault and a single count of harassment. He was released on $5,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
A 12-year-old girl told police she called her grandmother to go shopping on Sunday, and told Romiski to be quiet because she couldn’t hear her grandmother on the telephone. The girl claimed Romiski threw a bottle that struck her leg, grabbed a box cutter and chased after her. The girl ran out of the house, police said.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Aug. 4.
• Police said Ronald Paul Felia, 39, of Darling Street, Wilkes-Barre, is facing several drug offenses after he was allegedly found with narcotics without a prescription and a small amount of marijuana at West Market and North Franklin streets Friday morning.
• Police said Brenda C. Tavino, 24, and Eleo Lucelo, 28, both from Wilkes-Barre, were cited with public drunkenness after they were found at North Main and Kulp streets at 2:30 a.m. Monday.
• Police said Kelsey Jones, of Wilkes-Barre, was arrested on evidence of drunken driving after a two-vehicle crash at North Pennsylvania Boulevard and Beaumont Street at 1:26 a.m. Monday.
Police said Jones struck a parked vehicle.
• A Larksville man was taken to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash at South Main and Ross streets on Sunday, police said.
Police said Jordan Davis, operating a 1996 Suzuki motorcycle, and Joan Malarkey, of Edwardsville, driving a 1992 Mercury Sable, collided at about 7:52 p.m. Davis was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, for injuries.
Malarkey wasn’t injured, police said.
• Police said Richard Lee Powell, 60, of Luzerne, was cited with providing false identification to law enforcement and public drunkenness after he was found in Kirby Park at 11:36 p.m. Sunday. Police allege Powell appeared to be intoxicated and identified himself with another name.
• Two drivers involved in a two-vehicle crash were arrested on evidence of drunken driving on Sunday, police said.
Police said Tiffany A. Moore, 19, of Hunlock Township, and Timothy D. Sons Jr., 24, of Wilkes-Barre, collided at Blackman and Arch streets at about 1:30 a.m. Moore and Sons were arrested on evidence of driving under the influence, police said.
A passenger in Moore’s vehicle, Christian Barnes, 21, of Wilkes-Barre, was cited with having an open container of alcohol, police said.
• Mark Watkievicz, of Wilkes-Barre, reported on Sunday someone smashed the driver’s side window of his 1997 Ford while it was parked in the area of 470 N. Washington St.
• James Gallagher, of Poplar Street, reported on Sunday someone scratched his 2002 Nissan while it was parked near his residence.
DALLAS TWP. – Police said they recovered a yellow MMD gas generator on Sedler Road on July 16. The generator has black handles with wheels. Anyone with information about the item is asked to contact Dallas Township police at 674-2000.
PLAINS TWP. – A Wilkes-Barre man was charged Sunday for allegedly assaulting an officer.
John J. Parduski, 22, of North Main Street, was charged with simple assault and resisting arrest. He was arraigned by District Judge Paul Roberts in Kingston and jailed at the county prison for lack of $5,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
Township police spotted two men walking away from a disabled vehicle near state Route 115 and East Mountain Road at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The two men ran and hid in woods where Parduski was found hiding behind a tree.
Parduski struggled with an officer when he was arrested, the criminal complaint says.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Aug. 4.
