Police Blotter

BUTLER TWP. – Township police reported the following:

• Thomas Alfred Price, 52, of Hazleton, was charged with driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed and having no insurance.

Police stopped Price on North Old Turnpike Road for driving 46 mph in a 25 mph zone on Sept. 10. Police said Price had an altered registration sticker on the license plate.

He was charged with two counts of altered or forged documents, and one count each of driving while under suspension, failure to have insurance, speeding and not having the motorcycle inspected.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 14 before District Judge Daniel O’Donnell in Sugarloaf.

• A cell phone was reported stolen from a dorm room on West Foothills Drive on Sept. 15.

• A female motorist reported Monday that someone threw rocks at her vehicle as she was traveling in the area of North Hunter Highway and South Main Road.

HANOVER TWP. – Police said they assisted agents with Pennsylvania State Parole with apprehending Ryan Bieble, 30, on Monday.

Bieble was wanted on a parole violation and was captured at his residence on Boland Avenue, police said.

WYOMING – Police arrested a man on charges he assaulted a woman on Monday.

William John Crawford Jr., 58, of Shulde Lane, Wyoming, was charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned on Tuesday and released without bail.

Police allege Crawford assaulted a woman outside his home at about 8:30 p.m. Monday. The woman was treated at a hospital, police said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 30 before District Judge Joseph Carmody in West Pittston.

SUGAR NOTCH – Police reported the following:

• Police charged a man on Monday for allegedly assaulting a woman.

Christopher Michael Zeppenfelt, 36, of Freed Street, Sugar Notch, was charged with two counts of simple assault, and one count each of harassment and disorderly conduct.

He was jailed at the county prison for lack of $5,000 bail.

Police allege Zeppenfelt assaulted a woman inside his home just after 7 p.m. on Sunday.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29 before District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township.

• Police charged a former Sugar Notch council member on Monday for allegedly threatening police officers.

George T. Gushanas, 48, of Sweet Valley, was charged with terroristic threats, resisting arrest, harassment, disorderly conduct and driving under the influence. He was jailed at the county prison for lack of $5,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Gushanas called the Sugar Notch Police Department at about 7:37 p.m. Sunday claiming someone was at his former residence on Evergreen Road. Gushanas became upset when police were busy investigating a domestic disturbance and he threatened to assault officers.

Gushanas later called Luzerne County 911 from the Evergreen Road home requesting police.

Two officers arrived at the home and observed Gushanas arriving in a pickup. Police allege Gushanas got out of the vehicle and appeared intoxicated.

Police said Gushanas resisted arrest and was taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for a blood-alcohol test.

Gushanas was a council member in Sugar Notch in the early 1990s.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29 before District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township.
