Police Blotter

WILKES-BARRE – Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on South Pennsylvania Avenue at East Market Street just before 9 a.m. Friday.

Elizabeth A. Parsons, of Wapwallopen, driver of a Honda Accord, reported she was traveling south along the avenue approaching the intersection of East Market Street when she avoided an unknown vehicle and struck a Lexus LS, driven by Martin J. Meyer, of Kingston.

Parsons told police she did not see the Lexus’ turn signal activated, and her passenger, Zachary Fey, of Mountaintop, concurred with Parsons’ accounts.

Meyer reported that he was stopped at the intersection attempting to turn left, police said. His vehicle was struck from behind by the Accord. Meyer complained of back pain and both airbags deployed in his vehicle.

The Accord sustained damage to the front end and was privately towed. The Lexus had damage to the rear end and was driven from the scene, police said.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following incidents:

Richard Simonson, 48, and Thomas Costello, 56, both of Plains Township, were arrested and issued non-traffic citations for public drunkenness on Miller Street at 3:19 p.m. Thursday.

Someone entered 32-year-old Lisa Gregory’s Sturdevant Street home and stole a television and video games at about 6:35 a.m. Thursday. Gregory’s 1998 Chevrolet was also stolen during the incident.

Abdul McGill, 26, of Kingston, was arrested on two non-traffic warrants at police headquarters at 9:43 a.m. Thursday.

A juvenile female struck another juvenile female at 60 New Hill St. at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Tom Pearce, 56, of Sturdevant Street, reported on Thursday that his vehicle had been damaged while parked at 73 S. Meade St.

Erik M. Watkins, of Hughestown, was arrested Wednesday after police alleged he began acting suspiciously and disorderly on Union Street, near North Washington Street. A pat down search of him revealed a wax packet of suspected heroin.

Bill Deangelo, 77, reported at 7:35 a.m. Thursday that shrubs were taken from a front yard at 18 Anthracite St.

Dawn Wolfe, of Lebanon, reported at 11:59 a.m. Friday that her vehicle was entered by a suspect who damaged the rear passenger side quarter panel and removed a JVC stereo, valued at approximately $120, at Rear 17 W. Ross St.

The purse of 55-year-old Marilyn Smith was stolen from her vehicle while it was parked at 77 Calvin St. at about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Vernon Morant reported at 9:17 a.m. Friday that his vehicle was entered by someone prying the door lock assembly off the passenger door while the vehicle was parked in the area of Carey Avenue and Sterling Street. A Sony stereo worth approximately $200 was stolen.

Someone broke into a vending machine owned by National Vending Corp., Allentown, and stole money at 620 Kidder St. around 10 a.m. Friday.

HAZLE TWP. – State police at Hazleton investigated a two-vehicle crash on Route 3019, Stockton Road, just before 10 p.m. Monday.

The crash occurred as there was a tractor-trailer disabled blocking both lanes of travel, police said. Benny R. Arias, 21, of Hazleton, driver of a 2007 Infiniti G35, pulled in behind a witness who was stopped in front of the trailer in the northbound lane.

Arias began backing south in the northbound lane up the back side of the crest of the hill.

Police said Alfredo Utrera, 23, of Hazleton, driver of a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling north, crested the hill and struck the Infiniti from behind. Utrera then fled the scene.

A citation was filed against Arias for limitations on backing. Police also filed citations against Utrera for drivers required to be licensed, duty to give information and render aid, and immediate notice of accident to police department. No injuries were reported.
