KINGSTON – A Forty Fort woman accused of committing an armed robbery at the Turkey Hill on Pierce Street waived her right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Paul Roberts on Wednesday.
Samantha Judith Sgarlat, 28, of West Turner Street, waived two counts each of robbery and simple assault, and one count each of criminal attempt to commit robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and terroristic threats to Luzerne County Court.According to the criminal complaint:
Police allege Sgarlat concealed her face and entered the store around 4 a.m. on Nov. 11.
She implied she had a knife and a handgun and threatened the clerk while demanding money. Police said Sgarlat struggled with the clerk and chased the employee through the store with a mop.
The clerk grabbed a crowbar, and Sgarlat fled the store. Police said they linked Sgarlat to the robbery when they found an illegally parked vehicle at Reynolds Street and Tioga Avenue.
Sgarlat borrowed the vehicle from a friend and had dropped the car’s key inside the store, the criminal complaint says.
KINGSTON – A Wilkes-Barre woman charged by Edwardsville police with stealing merchandise from Kmart waived her right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Paul Roberts on Wednesday.
Joan Rosengrant, 40, of Monroe Street, waived a single count of retail theft to Luzerne County Court.
Edwardsville police allege Rosengrant stole $273 worth of merchandise from the department store on Nov. 16, according to the criminal complaint.
KINGSTON – A man accused of pushing a man who was then kicked in the head several times by another person will face a simple assault charge in Luzerne County Court.
District Judge Paul Roberts sent the charge against Richard A. Sypniewski to county court after a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Charges of aggravated assault, harassment and disorderly conduct were dismissed against Sypniewski.
Edwardsville police allege Sypniewski pushed Michael Stahl to the ground outside a Short Street residence on Nov. 13. After Stahl fell to the ground, police allege Diana Krieger, 19, of Short Street, Edwardsville, kicked him several times in the head and body, according to the criminal complaint.
Stahl suffered facial injuries, police said.
Krieger was charged by police with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 16 before Roberts.
