HAZLE TWP. – An Ebervale man was killed Tuesday night in a one-vehicle crash off Route 940, said state police at Hazleton .
James J. Berlando, the driver of a 1997 Oldsmobile, was traveling south on Oakmont Road when for unknown reasons he failed to stop for a posted stop sign, struck a guardrail, a tree and then a home at 1566 Route 940, authorities said..
Berlando, 74, was pronounced dead on the scene by Luzerne County deputy coroner John Paletski.
The home was occupied at the time of the crash, but no one was hurt, state police said. The crash is still under investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Hazleton barracks at 459-3890.
PLAINS TWP. – Police said they cited Robert Fuller, age and address not provided, for allegedly kicking a vehicle being used by a Domino’s Pizza delivery employee on Monday.
Police said a Domino’s employee was delivering a pizza to room 238 at the Red Roof Inn, state Route 315. When the door opened, a dog charged out of the room. The pizza employee asked Fuller to place the dog back into the room, which Fuller refused, police said.
Police said Fuller followed the pizza employee and kicked the vehicle.
Fuller was cited with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and harassment, police said.
HANOVER TWP. – Township police released the following information on recent vehicle break-ins:
• Margaret McGurk, of East Liberty Street, reported someone stole compact discs and rummaged through her Toyota Corolla.
• Chantel Mangat, of East Newport Street, reported someone rummaged through her Honda Accord.
• Todd Kolbicka, of East Liberty Street, reported someone stole a global positioning system and money from his Hyundai Elantra.
• Anna Marie Hanlon, of East Liberty Street, reported someone stole money from her Toyota Solara.
• Jack Stribauth, of East Liberty Street, reported someone stole a global positioning system from his Oldsmobile Aurura.
• James McGuire, of Charles Street, reported someone stole money and a driver’s license from his GMC Canyon.
EDWARDSVILLE – Police charged an Ashley man on Monday accused of threatening an ex-girlfriend.
Robert Terry Lewis, 32, of Ashley Street, was charged with making terroristic threats, stalking and harassment. He was arraigned by District Judge Paul J. Roberts in Kingston and released after posting $10,000 bail.
Angel Yaskiewicz told police that Lewis has been following her, and threatened to kill her if she did not talk to him, according to the criminal complaint.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Nov. 25 before Roberts.
KINGSTON – Police arrested a Nanticoke man on Tuesday for his alleged role in stealing meat from a grocery store in May.
Floyd Edward Powell, 26, of East Union Street, was charged with receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft. He was jailed at the county prison for lack of $20,000 bail.
Powell and Todd Joseph Junevitz, 31, of Plymouth, entered Aldi’s Market, Pierce Street, and stole several packages of meat on May 29, according to the criminal complaint.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Nov. 25 before District Judge Paul J. Roberts in Kingston.
Junevitz is facing charges of receiving stolen property, retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft in county court.
EDWARDSVILLE – Police arrested a Wilkes-Barre woman on Monday on allegations she stole items from Kmart.
Joan Rosengrant, 39, of Monroe Street, was charged with retail theft. She was jailed at the county prison for lack of $5,000 bail.
Rosengrant stole items valued at $273 from the department store, according to the criminal complaint.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Nov. 25 before District Judge Paul J. Roberts in Kingston.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:
• Charles Balasavage reported around 1 p.m. on Monday that prescription medication was stolen from 812 Scott St.
