PLYMOUTH – A Plymouth man was charged Thursday after police said he threatened to stab two women.
Alfred Bevan, 44, of Nottingham Street, was charged with a single count of terroristic threats. He was released on $35,000 unsecured bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
Two women told police Bevan threatened them with a knife during a dispute at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 3 in Central Court.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following incidents:
• Several people were cited with public drunkenness Friday night and early Saturday in various parts of the city: Noni Predix, 36, Wilkes-Barre; Kenneth Williams, 53, Scranton; Colleen McGovern, 33, Wyoming; Ellen Cups, 48, Wilkes-Barre; and Paul Linker, 28, Wilkes-Barre.
• A white female says she was sexually assaulted at a property in the 200 block of High Street around 5:45 p.m. Friday, police said. She was taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for a medical exam.
. A 24-year-old woman said she was sexually assaulted by a man she knows around 10 p.m. Friday on East Chestnut Street, police said.
A 16-year-old male juvenile fell asleep in a chair after he broke glass on a back door and entered a residence at 34 Simpson St. on Friday, police said. The teen was taken into custody and later released to his grandfather, according to police. Charges have been filed.
Someone forced in a front door of a residence at Wilkes University, 30 W. River St., on Friday, police said. No items were taken.
The incident is under investigation, police said.
Police said Herbert Bryant, 43, a fugitive from justice wanted by the New Jersey State Prison, was arrested at 428 E. Northampton St. on Friday. He was lodged awaiting arraignment and extradition, police said.
Ron Cottle, 32, and Jerome Warren, 42, were arrested after police said they appeared highly intoxicated in public at 58 Sheridan St. on Friday.
Margaret Ruggiero, 66, reported someone smashed the car window of her 1998 Volkswagen vehicle with a rock at 232 McLean St. on Friday, police said.
Officers observed Paul Vermac, Jr., of 5022 Birney Ave., Moosic, sleeping in the center of Public Square at 3:15 p.m. Friday, according to police. He was found to be highly intoxicated and was taken into custody at police headquarters, where he was held until he was sober.
Raffi Kasparian, of Wilkes-Barre, reported someone dumped three piles of dirt on his property at 283 High St. at 3:01 p.m. Friday, according to police.
Charles Brown, of Water Street, Wilkes-Barre, reported someone removed several checks from his P.O. Box at 300 S. Main St. at 4 p.m. Friday, police said.
• Police said a window was smashed at Bedwick’s Pharmacy, Hazle Avenue, on Friday.
• A 22-year-old woman told police she was sexually assaulted by a male on Stanton Street on Thursday. Police said the investigation is continuing.
• Police said a tire was flattened on a vehicle when it was parked on East Main Street on Thursday.
• Pravina Patel reported her purse was stolen from 123 Hazle Ave., on Thursday.
• Police said Keegan Adams, 19, of Coal Street, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found with marijuana at Farley Lane and McCarragher Street on Thursday.
• Leon Wells Jr., of Wilkes-Barre, reported someone smashed a window on his car when it was parked on Holland Street on Thursday.
• A Kingston Township man was charged Thursday after police said he exposed himself inside a vacant home on Sullivan Street.
Derrick L. Leonard, 39, of Mathers Drive, was charged with indecent exposure and criminal trespass. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
A property owner was inspecting a home on Sullivan Street when he saw a man, later identified as Leonard, and two women inside the residence. Leonard and one of the women had their pants down, and appeared to be performing a sex act, the criminal complaint says.
It was unknown if the women were charged.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 3 in Central Court.
BUTLER TWP. – Township police reported the following:
• Police said items were taken from two vehicles that were parked at a hotel Wednesday morning.
• Police said Thomas Balay, 29, of Drums, waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Central Court on Wednesday in connection to a drunken driving arrest in March.
Police said Balay was arrested after a crash on North Hunter Highway and South Main Road on March 22. Police said Balay had a blood alcohol level of .230 percent.
An adult driver in Pennsylvania is considered legally intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent.
HAZLETON – A Weatherly man was charged Friday on evidence of drunken driving and illegal possession of a firearm, according to arrest records.
Daniel Wassil, 22, of Wetzel Run Road, was charged with firearms not to be carried without a license, prohibited offensive weapons, driving under the influence and careless driving. He was released on $5,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
Police stopped Wassil for driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed on Broad Street at about 1:15 a.m. Friday. Wassil exhibited signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests, the criminal complaint says.
Police said they found a .9mm handgun that was concealed in Wassil’s waistband, ammunition, a knife and metal knuckles in his pockets.
Police said Wassil’s handgun permit was revoked by Carbon County officials.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 7 in Central Court.
WARRIOR RUN – Police Chief Chris Pelchar said Melvin Hoskins, 50, of Hanover Township, is facing drunken-driving charges after he was found inside a vehicle on Orchard Street in March.
Hoskins was found slumped over the steering wheel inside a Jeep Cherokee on March 29, Pelchar said. The police chief said there were several open cans of beer inside the vehicle, which was idling in the middle of the roadway.
Pelchar said Hoskins’ blood alcohol level was .20 percent. An adult driver in Pennsylvania is considered legally intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent.
Hoskins was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, and a traffic offense. A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 9 in Central Court.
