BUTLER TWP. – Township police arrested a 45-year-old McAdoo man while he was attempting to purchase a firearm on Saturday, according to a police news release.
Christopher Fabiani, of South Kennedy Drive, was at a Drums firearms dealer trying to purchase a gun, township police said. During the purchase, police said Fabiani was checked through a state computer system to determine if he was eligible to buy the gun.
The computer check found that Fabiani was wanted, and township police were notified, police said. Officers responded to the scene and apprehended Fabiani leaving the gun dealer.
Fabiani was wanted by Schuylkill Haven police for resisting arrest, police said.
Township police are continuing the investigation to determine if Fabiani lied while preparing the paperwork to purchase the firearm.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:
Laura Williams, of Shavertown, reported someone smashed a window on her 2002 Saturn when it was parked in the South Main Street garage early Friday morning.
Police said a large window was found smashed at the state office building, 47 S. Washington St., at 2:16 a.m. Friday. Two large rocks were found inside the building, police said.
Police said a 14-year old male faces a disorderly conduct charge in connection to a fight at the Holy Redeemer Bazaar on South Pennsylvania Avenue on Thursday. Police said security at the bazaar noticed the boy lifted his shirt and displayed the handgrip of a gun that turned out to be a plastic toy gun.
Walter Williams reported someone smashed a window on his 2007 Suzuki Forenza when it was parked in the area of 72 N. Meade St. early Friday morning.
Chere McMillan, of Glen Lyon, reported a male juvenile struck her with a belt buckle at 60 New Hill St. on Thursday. McMillan suffered an injury to her leg, police said.
Brad Wiedlick, of South Main Street, reported a cell phone and $10 was missing from his locker inside Kistler Elementary School, Old River Road, on Thursday.
Police said Hope Remos, of North Franklin Street, reported Marty Gushock, 44, of Terrace Street, struck her in the face and threw a cup of coffee at her while they were standing in front of the Kirby Center for the Performing Arts on Public Square on Thursday. Police said Gushock was cited with harassment.
Michael Burns, of North Main Street, reported a male known to him stole a digital camera from his residence on Tuesday.
Two passengers in a vehicle were taken to a hospital after an accident on Mundy Street, near Kidder Street, on Thursday night, police said.
Police said Lee Shaffer, of Avoca, driving a 2003 Hyundai, stopped on Mundy Street for a stopped vehicle when his vehicle was struck from behind by a 2003 Ford, driven by Elaine Lasco, of Wyoming.
Gary Shaffer and Gloria Kostiak, passengers in Shaffer’s vehicle, were taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township, police said.
NESCOPECK TWP. – State police at Shickshinny investigated a one-car crash that occurred as a driver of a 1989 Honda Accord was traveling north on Tower Road at 9 a.m. Friday.
Scott A. Giger, 34, of Bloomsburg failed to negotiate a sharp left curve in the road, state police said. His Honda’s front end then struck a dirt embankment, and the car became airborne and flipped, landing on its roof down an embankment approximately 50 feet from the road, police said.
Giger was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment of minor injuries. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
KINGSTON – An art gallery on Wyoming Avenue reported that they received a suspicious telephone call from a foreign county, and police want to warn other businesses about the scam.
Police said the owner of Vgogh Art Gallery received a call from someone in a foreign country through the AT&T relay service for the deaf on Thursday. The caller stated that they were attempting to use credit cards to purchase items and asked for confidential business account information in order to complete the transaction, police said.
Police learned that the Internet relay service, which is an operator-assisted phone service for the deaf or hearing impaired, has been used to scam businesses and individuals for personal information.
